Hawthorne didn't move. "Think you could get to the kitchens on your own?"
Offline
She nodded, flipping through her book deliberately. "Oh yes, I have mapped out the ship and should find it just fine."
Offline
"Go on and find it then. I'll tag along in case you need help."
Offline
She nodded, studying her carefully drawn map and began making her way towards the kitchens.
Offline
Hawthorne was pleased to see she could navigate to the kitchens with ease. "Good job!" he praised as they came to a stop at the kitchens.
Offline
She smiled at the praise. "Thank you. I didn't want to get lost so I began mapping as soon as I could."
Offline
"How much of the ship have mapped yet?"
Offline
"Oh, well I have the upper level and most of the second I believe. However I haven't found the treasure storage yet."
Offline
"It's well hidden," he chuckled. "It'll take you some time to find."
Offline
"Oh. Well yes I suppose that makes sense." She said. "In the event of a hostile invasion it would be unwise to leave your collective findings out in the open."
Man, that was a lot of big words.
Offline
He nodded slowly, still a bit surprised by how she spoke. Not many people in the crew used such large, intelligent words.
Offline
She didn't seem aware that she'd done anything out of the ordinary, just smiling gently.
Offline
"Remind me where you're from?" Hawthorne inquired. "If you don't mind sharing, of course."
Offline
"Oh not at all! I was born in the Northeastern isles but my parents moved us to their manor in the Harnon City when I was two."
Offline
"So you used to be part of the nobility?" That might explain some of her vocabulary.
Offline
"Yes, are you familiar with the Noble house of Robins?" She asked.
Offline
"I think it rings a bell..." Hawthorne rubbed his chin as he tried to connect the names with faces or events.
Offline
"My father is on the board for the Northern/Northwestern trading company. He helped establish the trade routs with the West."
Offline
"Oh yes, the House of Robins! What brought you to working with pirates? The trading with the West makes good money."
Offline
"The adventure!" She said with a grin. "I never had the chance to sale, so when I saw this ship in the dock, I went to apply. Well, I wasn't quite sure of the proper channels to go through, so I really just looked for someone who knew what they were doing."
Offline
"I can assure you, you'll get plenty of adventure here." Grinning, he took a couple plates and passed one to her. "There will be much work involved too, of course."
Offline
"Oh of course I plan to earn my keep." She said pleasantly, taking the plate with a "thank you kindly".
Offline
He nodded and sat down at one of the benches lining the sides of tables. "You'll have to start with clearing and work your up."
Offline
"That seems reasonable." She said.
Offline
"Glad you can agree." Hawthorne took a bite of his meal.
Offline
She folded ate like a noble too, that's for sure, perfect manners and all. "Forgive my asking but what is your role on this ship?"
Offline
"First mate." Hawthorne straighted up, and his face was clearly glowing with pride. "It means I'm second-in-command to the captain."
Offline
"Oh how fascinating!" She said earnestly. "What do your duties consist of?"
Offline
"Making sure everyone knows what they're doing, keeping things on order, that sort of thing."
Offline
"Interesting, " she said. "You must have been here for some time to reach such a rank."
